Job Summary

AECOM in Belfast are looking to recruit a Structural Engineer with post-graduation experience in the Buildings sector to join our Structures Team in our Clarence Street West, Belfast office. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the structural analysis and design of building structures and foundations. Assist in the management of small and medium sized projects, as well as provide support on large projects.


  • Take responsibility for the preparation of structural calculations.

  • Application of the current Eurocodes & Building Regulations, relating to building structures, in the design of structures.

  • Undertake structural analysis and design using both computer & hand techniques.

  • Contribute to the independent technical review of analyses prepared by others.

  • Assist in the management of project in order to provide clients with deliverables on time and within budget.

  • Have a desire to learn new skills and the ability to consider the wider engineering issues related to the work being undertaken.

  • Have the desire to work towards becoming a chartered structural engineer.

  • Contribute to the broad range of technical skills that Advanced Structures team possess

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrate their experience in the application of various foundation types, as well as competency in design of buildings constructed in reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, timber and masonry.

  • Experienced in use of commercially available design software packages (eg. SCIA, Tekla Building Designer, Tedds)

  • Some experience in the use of Finite Element software

  • Ability to communicate well in the English language, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to accurately communicate technical requirements using hand drawn sketches.

  • Able to decide on the level of reliance and accuracy to attach to results of computer analysis and to interpret results into practical engineering solutions.

  • Demonstrable track record in the preparation of designs contributing to the delivery of client projects.

  • Able to manage your work commitments, whilst working on a number of projects simultaneously

  • Our current project work is primarily within N Ireland, however successful candidates should be available to travel outside of N Ireland, should there be a requirement for the delivery of that project.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline

  • Bachelors degree in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline

  • Working towards Chartered Membership of the Institution of Structural Engineers or Institution of Civil Engineers.

  • CSR/CSCS Health & Safety Awareness Registration Card
