AECOM is currently seeking a Principal or Senior Civil Engineer to be based in Birmingham, playing a key role as part of our national team of civil engineers who specialise in development infrastructure.
You will be responsible for and undertake the design or elements of design for drainage, highways and connecting infrastructure for a wide variety and scale of developments across all industry sectors
We need someone with a background in highways or drainage with the flexibility to work on both and integrate well within multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for the mentoring and support of our more junior engineers whilst, you manage your own projects, contribute to larger schemes and have a role in the continuing development of our national team
As well as taking on technical engineering challenges relating to design you will also project manage and drive forward civil engineering infrastructure projects. It is important that you strive to push the boundaries and develop yourself professionally and help ignite new ways of working in our business.

About Our Team:
We are experts in drainage, earthworks, pavement and highway design. We are a medium sized team with a good depth of proven experience and strong forward plan for growth. We work closely with each other in a similar way to smaller consultancies, but we have the support and pipeline of a much larger business. We are not just a standalone office we are aligned with our national development infrastructure team so are able to share resource and manage a larger number of projects. We also have access locally to a multidisciplinary network of over 300 Birmingham based engineers, project managers and specialist consultants.
As just some examples our project portfolio includes industrial projects, major residential developments, motorsports engineering, work in the defence sector and we are also pleased to support various regional projects.

Job Responsibilities:
Undertake civil infrastructure design and design management. Depending on project scale and with appropriate supervision either project manage or contribute to the project management of development related infrastructure projects (including planning, control and monitoring from concept through to detailed design phase and construction support).
Play an active part in the project assurance and continual improvement process, including taking part in technical reviews.
Provide a client-focused service which results in on-going satisfaction and repeat business.
Build effective relationships within teams, across the organisation.
Mentor junior staff and take a proactive interest in personal and team development and manage a small team.
Support work-winning initiatives, including the preparation and management of project budgets & programmes.
Contribute to developing the company’s business including technical skills development.
Work experience within a similar consultancy or other relevant business
A clear work history and proof of professional development and learning
To understand and have experience of the MCHW, DMRB, MfS and local authority design guidance.
A detailed knowledge of road design using 3D computer modelling packages, such as Civil 3D.
Detailed knowledge of drainage design including piped systems, SuDS based systems and familiarity with storage design and computer programs such as MicroDrainage.
Experienced in the preparation of contract drawings and specifications and the negotiation of Section 38 and 278 Agreements for highway works, 104 and 106 Agreements for sewers and also utilities work experience.
