Job Summary

As a Technician you will;

Be part of a large established, experienced and growing team, based in AECOM’s multidisciplinary Birmingham (Colemore Sq) office. You will have the opportunity to progress your career through working on a diverse range of significant development infrastructure projects (across all stages of development), for a range of Clients. You will also have the opportunity to be part of a proactive learning environment within a wider national community of infrastructure engineers.

In summary you will:

  • Undertake design or elements of design, using relevant design software, with appropriate training and supervision.

  • Understand relevant first principles of design to be able to critically evaluate software outputs.

  • Have a sound knowledge of coordinated 3D design, working in collaborative design environments, and the application of BIM.

  • Be actively progressing training and experience both through project work and a structured development programme commensurate with current status, leading to accreditation by a recognised professional body.

Job Duties

  • Undertake aspects of civil infrastructure design with training and supervision, using appropriate design software.

  • Be able to understand, review and communicate software outputs based on a sound knowledge of relevant first principles.

  • Play an active part in the project assurance process, including taking part in technical reviews.

  • Provide a right first time, client focused service which results in on-going satisfaction and repeat business.

  • Build effective relationships within teams and staff from other disciplines.

  • Work in an organised way, checking work, in accordance with appropriate corporate standards.

  • Take a proactive approach to developing your own skills.

  • Work in accordance with an agreed budget and schedule with appropriate supervision

Specific Skills Required

Without being prescriptive we are seeking a blend of skills from the following list, with the understanding experience levels in specific technical areas may vary.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Demonstrable proactive approach to continuing professional development.

  • Familiarity with relevant design software including, Infraworks, Civils 3D, Microdrainage and related proprieratry design software.

  • Demonstrable awareness and understanding of BIM and coordinated 3D design as well as current technological advances in the design process.

  • A blend of early career design experience in some of the following: design of highways, access roads, junctions, roundabouts and infrastructure of development projects (including road geometry, vehicle tracking, public realm, earthworks, pavements, drainage and underground services).

  • An understanding of the corresponding relevant first principles and design standards for example: MCHW, DMRB, MfS and local authority design guidance;

  • An awareness of drainage design from first principles, including piped systems, SuDS based systems and familiarity with storage design and computer programs such as MicroDrainage;

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum relevant experience.

  • Ideally experience in contributing to the design and preparation of contract drawings and specifications for Tenders and Section 38 and 278 Agreements for highway works, 104 and 106 Agreements for sewers and utilities works.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HNC plus relevant experience
