AECOM Consultant Town Planner in Bristol, United Kingdom

Job Summary

We are looking for a Consultant Town Planner to join our growing team of town planning consultants in the south west, with a preferred location of Bristol. As a Consultant in our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects including major infrastructure projects consented under the 2008 Planning Act and planning applications across a variety of sectors, under the Town and Country Planning Act.

You will assist with the preparation of Development Consent Orders and planning applications, undertake site visits, report writing and work collaboratively across our network of offices with architects, engineers, environmental specialists, economists and other related professionals to develop high quality projects.

Primary Job responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the management of planning application submissions for a variety of public sector and commercial clients.

  • Writing Planning Statements and Design and Access Statements for planning applications.

  • Supporting the lead in the management and successful delivery of major infrastructure projects, under the Planning Act 2008;

  • Working as part of collaborative teams on infrastructure and development projects and coordination of multi-disciplinary project teams.

  • Liaising with the Environmental Impact Assessment team.

  • Contribution to the preparation of successful commercial tenders.

  • Assisting with project management and implementing quality and health and safety principles.

  • Carrying out planning research and analysis and assist with the identification of planning risk.

  • Participating in internal and external meetings.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant town planning experience.

  • The ability to write clearly and concisely.

  • Able to work on own initiative with limited supervision.

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Project.

  • Sound knowledge of UK planning policy and legislation and, preferably an understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment legislation.

  • Client focused with good interpersonal skills and collaborative working approach with a high level of commitment to quality.

  • Experience in the preparation and submission of planning applications preferably in relation to residential development.

  • Working in collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams on infrastructure and other major projects.

  • Identifying, evaluating and managing planning risk.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licentiate Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent professional town planning organization or working towards an accreditation.
