Job Summary

This role could be based from any of our AECOM offices across the UK.

This role will lead the procurement and supply chain management for construction engineering category of spend within the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region to ensure that best practice is adopted, resulting in high standards of performance, delivery of financial targets, cost effectiveness and resource efficiency. The role reports to the Head of Procurement and Supply Chain in EMEA.

Key Objectives of the role:

  • To improve the value and reduce the risk of the AECOM EMEA supply chain

  • To improve the ability of the business to make the right procurement decisions, through detailed knowledge of demand and supply, market analysis and application of procurement techniques

  • To utilise procurement technology to achieve high levels of compliance to the procurement policy and processes

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Develop category management plans based on a detailed knowledge of demand, supply and market analysis

  • Deliver sourcing strategies to meet business requirements including drafting tenders, evaluating offers, negotiation, contract drafting and implementation

  • Manage contracts including the use of key performance indicators and escalation of performance issues where necessary

  • Implement supplier relationship management to deliver greater value

  • Utilise procurement technology to improve efficiency and achieve high levels of compliance to the procurement policy and processes, for example, the implementation of the no PO no pay policy including the use of catalogues supported by Coupa

  • Line management and development of another member of staff

  • Support the development and capability of the EMEA Procurement and Supply Chain team by demonstrating high standard of delivery and improving procurement resources

  • Where necessary, support key work winning activities, providing procurement expertise to the bid teams

  • Review end to end process to improve management of supplier base, channel management, contract management, enable and improve PO compliance and adoption, workflow and approvals, payment processes and data and analytics

  • Work with communication and change management teams to build effective plans when required

Minimum Requirements

  • Proven capability of contributing to large-scale change initiatives and embedding new organisations and new ways of working

  • Proven capability of effectively organising, motivating and developing people in a complex, matrix-managed organisation

  • Experience of managing procurement of sub-categories of spend such as site surveys, infrastructure design and site construction. Previous experience of NEC contract standards would be an advantage

  • Experience of managing procurement within a joint venture

  • Superior influencing and communication skills

  • The ability to work with and influence a broad range of customers, stakeholders and supply partner staff at senior levels

  • A passion for delivering tangible and measurable results

  • Strong commercial acumen and a proven track record of identifying and delivering substantial margin improvement

  • Proficient analytical skills and a measured approach to decision making

  • A collaborative approach with the ability to maximise the short-term position while building long term productive relationships

  • Able to plan and manage multiple work programmes effectively

Specific technical knowledge/skills:

  • Interpersonal and influencing skills

  • Category management tools and techniques

  • Strategic sourcing tools and techniques

  • Tender and contract drafting

  • Tactical cost reduction expertise

  • Supplier performance improvement tools & techniques

  • Strong negotiation skills, strong contractual and commercial competency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant degree, for example, in business, engineering or science

  • CIPS qualified or equivalent, with substantial experience of category management, strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management within a large and complex organisation.
