AECOM Senior Transport Planner/Modeller - Transport Planning in Bristol, United Kingdom

Job Summary

If the answers to these questions are yes, then we are looking to expand our teams in the South West to work on many exciting new projects to support sustainable economic growth and development across the region.

Examples of our current projects and clients include:

Being the Technical Partner to Highways England for the development of the A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down (Stonehenge) RIS scheme;

Delivering schemes and business cases for the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) and its constituent local authorities, including Bath and North East Somerset (BaNES), city of Bristol, and South Gloucestershire;

Developing and applying, on behalf of Transport for Wales, the multi-modal South West and Mid-Wales Transport Model (SWMWTM) to be used as an evidence base for funding across the region;

Being the framework consultant for CORMAC, delivering schemes and business cases for investment across Cornwall;

Delivering business cases for various local and national organisations, including Network Rail; and

Developing the next generation of Regional Traffic Models for Highways England.

You will work within a collaborative team and office environment. A key part of this role is working closely with our other Senior, Principal and Associate staff within Transportation and across other disciplines. You will provide mentoring and technical advice for junior team members and the wider business. As such, you will need to have experience and knowledge of the full range of transport planning. Collectively, you will form a team that delivers quality products, that satisfies the needs of our clients, funding bodies, the Department for Transport and Welsh Government.

Job Responsibilities:

As a Senior Transport Planner/Modeller, you will be an important member of our Transport Planning and Modelling team in the South West. You will assist with the specification and management of transport planning projects and programmes, provide advice and support to junior staff and assist in the development of business opportunities.

You will have an interest and experience in Public Transport modelling and be able to lead workstreams within projects with limited supervision, taking responsibility for the technical quality of the work and ensuring that best practice techniques are applied consistently.

You will also contribute to the production and delivery of larger proposals and bids related to our market area from time to time and lead on smaller proposals and bids.

Minimum Requirements

  • Understanding of traffic models and business case development

  • Extensive data analysis and processing skills

  • Excellent numeracy and communication skills

  • Passionate about delivering high-quality modelling projects for our clients.

  • Producing reports to a high technical standard

  • Experience of presenting to project teams

  • Client contact and liaison with limited supervision

  • Supervision of workload and support to junior staff

  • Experienced in managing, motivating and developing a project team.

  • Keen to work as part of a team and to develop and progress career development.

  • Take responsibility for the health, safety and wellbeing of all staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant numerate/analytical subject area (e.g. mathematics, engineering, physics, geography).

  • Appropriate professional status with a relevant professional institute.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Either a Master’s degree, or PhD, in a relevant subject.

  • Professional accreditation/chartership – e.g. CTPP, CEng, or CMILT.
