Job Summary
Our Chelmsford and Bedford teams are expanding, and we are particularly interested in talking with professional Bridge Engineers at Senior or Principal level. Your bridge experience will include bridge design, inspection, assessment, and refurbishment schemes ( working from home is an option we will offer during the COVID pandemic ).
Our teams in Bedford and Chelmsford, have an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for more than 30 years throughout the UK as well as supporting other disciplines with our specialist input. These teams have the capability in design and assessment of bridges and other transportation structures for highway and rail schemes and we work closely with other disciplines from the Geotechnical, Environment, Transport Planning and Development Sectors. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals with a sound technical background and who share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.
A selection of our current and recent projects includes –
Structures designs for Highways England schemes including A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet Improvements, A46 Coventry Junctions and Area 6 and 8 OD Capital East Maintenance Works
Design and Assessment work on Huntingdon Railway Viaduct - a major structure carrying the existing A14 over the East Coast Mainline Railway, as part of the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvements Scheme
CAFA rail bridge inspection and assessment of structures on the LNE lines
Midlands Highways Alliance – Network Improvements and Bridge Maintenance schemes for Milton Keynes, Bucks CC and Oxford CC
LoHAC North-West. - London Highways Alliance Contract is a long-term commission under which AECOM together with FM Conway is responsible for maintaining all Transport for London (TfL) highway structures in the North-West area of London
CAFA rail bridge inspection and assessment. Long-term commission with bridge sites located on the Anglia, LNE and LNW routes
London Local Boroughs – working for many Boroughs including LB Bromley, LB Southwark, LB Ealing, LB Kingston. We are responsible for the inspection and maintenance of highway structures.
In senior roles you will be involved in a wide array of responsibilities and challenges:
Undertake and project manage rail and/or road bridge and associated structures engineering schemes from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design
Take responsibility for the contribution of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate
Responsible for production through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation
Hands-on technical design on-road and/or rail structures
Hands-on assessment of road and/or rail structures
Structural inspections and reporting
Excellent technical and communication skills both verbal and written
Client liaison
Production of tenders including quality documentation and costings
Project Management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery
Mentoring graduate engineers in their progress to Chartership
Minimum Requirements
Depending on your experience your responsibilities will broadly fall into these areas:
Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering
Significant experience with bridge and related structural inspection assessment and design schemes
Proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget
Experience in road and/or rail projects
Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
High-level technical skills in current inspection, assessment and design and be able to lead teams of graduate and senior engineers in such projects
Experience of Eurocodes, British Standards and assessment codes
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
Working knowledge of structural analysis software - Lusas or SBD preferred
Previous exposure with clients of both national and local authorities, together with major contractors
Ability to manage staff and project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation
You will have a current clean driving license and be willing to travel throughout the UK to visit sites
Preferred Qualifications
Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership with ICE or IStructE. for Principal roles we would ideally like you to be chartered
Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent
