Job Summary

To provide resource direction and consistency to the Electrification design teams located across the Croydon, Aldgate and Stratford (Project team) offices therein referred to as London South East (LSE) region. The post will also include tender and project support activity at a senior level including tender preparation and cost estimates; developing and management of business opportunities.

Job Duties

The post reports technically to the Head of Electrification & Power Engineering (Transportation Europe) but will retain line management to the Regional Director LSE. The post is located in either Aldgate or Croydon although the postholder will be expected to undertake site visits and other locations within the UK and overseas for short periods when required.

Contribute to design development, design risk and mitigation and value engineering

Lead design team meetings as appropriate.

Obtain design information from sub-consultants/equipment suppliers.

Produce detailed design information including calculations and design sketches.

Check / Approve design drawings.

Check / Approve technical reports.

Check / Approve project specifications for construction.

Attend site during construction phase if necessary to ensure construction is in accordance with specifications/drawings.

Carry out risk assessments and provision of design information for Health and Safety file.

General Accountabilities:

Complete timesheets on a daily basis, allocating time correctly against job numbers.

Manage the team against the basis of fees and costs.

Understand own and team contribution and impact on projects and develop an awareness of the implications for projects through the project management system.

Work within the financial and programme constraints and consider financial implications in producing design options.

Contribute and provide information for fee proposals.

Specific Skills Required

Operational

  • Manage delivery of E&P schemes and ensure consistency throughout the teams in LSE

  • Carry out conceptual and detailed design on a wide variety of electrification projects

  • Check reports and similar documentation to client requirements

  • Set and manage project, technical, safety and quality targets/objectives

  • Manage single discipline and multi-disciplinary projects if required

  • Work flexibly and effectively both as an individual and as part of a team

Minimum Requirements

  • Extensive proven post graduate experience.

  • Experience of railway electrification and plant design including Traction power system design including simulation, Signaling power design, EMC, ETE - 3rd / 4th rail design.

Additional Comments

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10yrs design and design management within railway electrification

  • AC/DC traction distribution design experience
