Job Description

AECOM UK & Ireland Ground Engineering Practice is expanding and has a Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist level vacancy in Croydon. Both full-time and part-time roles are available.

The Practice covers all elements of Ground Engineering serving a wide range of sectors including key specialisms. The team provides one-stop access to services in feasibility studies, ground investigation, interpretation, detailed design, contract administration and construction supervision for geotechnical works. We currently have commissions of varying scale across all sectors, including projects such as Thames Tideway, HS2, Neom (Saudi Arabia), Hinkley Point C nuclear power station deep temporary excavations, Devonport 10 Dock and Lower Thames Crossing Ground Investigation.

We require ambitious team players with the technical and commercial skills, knowledge and experience to take day to day responsibility and leadership for delivery of projects and tasks, with a focus on ensuring technical quality, continuous improvement and adherence to delivering to budget and programme whilst working in a dynamic and diverse team.

Job Duties:

Close support to our Associates and Principals in project delivery, work winning and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction;

Scoping, tendering and supervision of ground investigations;

Data interpretation, parameter derivation and design of geotechnical works including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, strengthened earthworks and ground improvement;

Lead the production of desk study, interpretive, design reports, technical notes and input to specification and contract documentation;

Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary design team interfacing directly with other ground engineering team members, other internal design teams from various disciplines and contractors;

Take responsibility for delivery of small projects or parts of projects under senior guidance and will assist in the internal checking and review of work by other members of the geotechnical team. In due course, you will become involved in bidding for jobs and programme and budget control.

You will have strong development skills and the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance and teaching to junior staff, if and when required;

Be aware of and understand the AECOM Project Management procedures, their importance and their application to projects, including monthly progress and budget reviews of projects;

Carry out regular design reviews in accordance with the company Quality Management System. Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests

.Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.

Identifies discrepancies in results.

Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

Qualifications

  • BSc/BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering with a bias towards geotechnics (Geotechnical Engineer candidates).

  • BSc/MSc in Geology, Engineering Geology or Earth Science (Engineering Geologist Candidates)
