Job Summary
Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignements.
Identifies discrepancies in results.
Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design
elements for engineering works.
- Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
Minimum Requirements
You will have a good degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and will be a Chartered Engineer or will be working toward Chartered status
Have a genuine interest in transportation structures and have good technical skills and communication skills
You may have some experience in leading small teams inspecting highway and railway structures and identification of safety-related defects
Your technical background will allow you to contribute towards the maintenance of steel, reinforced concrete, and pre-stressed concrete transportation structures. Your background should also include experience in leading or mentoring a small team
A commitment to comply with Health and Safety at Work and meeting the needs of our Clients
Familiar with the Highways Agency’s Guidance - Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB)
Familiar with inspection practices and Bridge Condition Indicator forms (including the Inspection Manual for Highway Structures) and be able to compile electronic inspection reports
A good understanding of the basic mechanisms of structural deterioration and structure components
You will have a sound understanding of the mechanism of structural failure and deterioration, and be able to judge when urgent measures or interim controls are necessary
Preferred Qualifications
You will have a good degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and will be a Chartered Engineer or will be working toward Chartered status
If not chartered, you will need to demonstrate a clear plan to progress to Chartered Membership of a recognised Professional Institution and AECOM offers a training scheme to support you with this.
Experience in leading small teams inspecting highway and railway structures and identification of safety-related defects
