Job Summary

AECOM continues to expand their successful and established Development team in Ireland and we now have a need for a Principal Civil Engineer to join the Dublin office. Our Dublin Development Engineering team currently has a vacancy for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Civil Engineer with minimum 10 years’ experience of development engineering projects.

Based in our office in Dun Laoghaire, our Dublin team has an established track record of successfully delivering high profile development schemes with multi-disciplinary capabilities which offers our staff the opportunity to work on a wide range of exciting Irish and International projects.

Committed to delivering projects to the highest standards, our Development team provide innovative and reliable services to a range of clients. We provide development engineering, traffic and transport planning support to private sector clients from concept through to implementation. Our wide range of clients includes developers, retailers, land owners, corporate entities, blue chip companies and Universities.

The successful candidate should have a proven track record in supporting the delivery of innovative and cost effective solutions to development engineering projects. The role available will provide a range of challenging, dynamic and high-profile projects. Typical duties will include overseeing the design and development of drainage and water supply networks for housing, industrial and commercial applications. A good knowledge of industry standard software models including Microdrainage; Civil 3D; an understanding of Flood Risk Assessments; experience of overseeing development of detail designs including design drawings (where applicable 3D applications); report writing; site inspections; supervision of junior engineers and Technicians. The role will also include management of project-related correspondence and providing support on project information concerning costs and programme.

The successful candidate should be an excellent communicator and able to work closely with private and public sector clients as well as multi-disciplinary teams in a fast paced environment. The role would ideally suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team.

You will report to a company Director and will be responsible for taking the lead on a variety of Civil Infrastructure projects. Your duties will include the preparation of and overseeing the production of technical reports, liaising with stakeholders, and checking and reviewing designs. You will be encouraged to develop your career, and will take part in CPD initiatives to help you further develop your skills.

Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local and national development and civil infrastructure projects. This provides our staff with a variety of exciting projects to deliver. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:

  • Numerous development engineering projects for mixed-use, retail, commercial and residential developments.

  • Public Sector Infrastructure Schemes including Detailed Design of Cycle, Pedestrian and Bus improvements

  • Masterplanning advice on infrastructure deficiencies, upgrades etc. for developers on key strategic development schemes.

Minimum Requirements

In the role experience in some/all of the following is required:

  • Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems

  • Surface water and foul gravity collection networks.

  • Foul pumping stations and rising mains.

  • Watermain distribution pipelines.

  • Attenuation and flow control elements.

  • Package wastewater treatment systems.

  • Section 50 applications and Flood Risk Assessments.

  • Familiar with Road and Pavement design including working knowledge of DMRB and DMURS.

  • Site suitability assessments and drainage planning requirements.

  • Knowledge of drainage design software such as WinDes (Microdrainage).

  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to integrate into the existing engineering team.

  • Experience in the preparation of Public Works Contracts and familiarity with the Capital Works Management Framework is desirable.

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit or similar drafting and BIM packages.

  • Prepare fee proposals including resources and programme.

  • Manage the preparation of technical and client reports, bringing together the contributions from other specialist areas of the business.

  • Attend project and Client meetings on behalf of our business.

  • Deliver projects within timescale, budget constraints and quality expectations.

  • Communicate project’s critical issues in a timely manner to Directors and Clients.

  • Act as the Project Manager on projects, as necessary.

  • Familiarity with and adherence to Engineers Ireland’s Code of Ethics and working towards obtaining the title of Chartered Engineer of Engineers Ireland.

  • Full Clean driving license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates should have the following experience and qualifications; Hold a Level 8 degree in Civil Engineering. Master’s Degree (level 9) is preferred but not essential.

  • Relevant work experience including experience in the delivery and management of projects from a design delivery and financial management.
