AECOM Ireland is a multidisciplinary team with over 600 employees covering Building (MEP, Civil and Structural) Engineering, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Transportation, Water, Energy & Environmental consultancy. The Building Engineering team has a large team of engineers working on high profile commercial, aviation, infrastructure, education, residential and mission critical projects across Ireland and abroad. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will lead multiple mid – large projects and project teams from concept through to handover.

  • The successful candidate will have proven experience in leading projects, delivering to quality, time and budget.

  • The successful candidate will also support management in all aspects of managing a busy engineering team to continue to build on its successes and growth.

  • This role will suit someone with a mechanical engineering / building services degree who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and looking to advance their career.

  • The successful candidate will ideally be chartered. Responsibilities:

  • Manage the mechanical design delivery of multiple projects from concept through to completion.

  • Provide technical oversight / strategic guidance / audit & review to other projects being completed within the team.

  • Provide continuous improvement and development across the engineering team.

  • Prepare fee proposals for submission to clients, including resources and programme.

  • Be responsible for the management, mentoring and development of staff.

  • Act as client liaison and discipline technical lead on projects.

  • Define engineering strategies and procedures in conjunction with other AECOM offices across the UK and Ireland.

  • Manage the commercial delivery of multiple projects including cash flow and resource management / projection.

  • Attend project and Client meetings on behalf of AECOM.

  • Prepare planning, design and feasibility reports.

  • Understand and implement AECOM’s Quality Management Policy, including performing QA checks on projects.

  • Be familiar with BIM standards and BIM project delivery.

  • Communicate effectively with clients, professional organizations, contractors, suppliers, sub contractors and other design team members.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Mechanical Engineer or Building Services Engineer. Prior experience in Mechanical Engineering / Building Services design, including areas such as developing detailed design drawings and calculations, specification writing and compiling technical schedules.

  • Experience in leading / managing mid – large projects from concept through to completion.

  • A track record of having worked on a variety of projects covering for example, Commercial, Education and Residential projects.

  • Excellent knowledge of Part L of the Building Regulations.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.

  • Experience of managing and maintaining Client relationships.

  • Excellent report writing skills, experience of making presentations and attending meetings with clients.

  • A highly motivated individual with excellent verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ideally a graduate in Mechanical, building services or relevant discipline.

  • Proven track record in the Irish building services industry.
