Job Summary

AECOM's Transportation Team currently has a vacancy for a Traffic Engineer within our Streets Team in our Dun Laoghaire office following several major project wins.

The successful candidate will be working towards achieving Chartered status and will have a good grounding in traffic engineering design and project management experience, particularly in the urban environment. They will have experience of working as part of multi-disciplinary project team developing designs for multi modal or mode specific traffic engineering schemes, urban realm and public transport improvements for urban areas. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team that works closely with our in-house urban designers to create Complete Streets and enhance peoples lives through good design.

The Dublin office has an established track record of successfully delivering transportation projects throughout Ireland and abroad. The office is located in Dun Laoghaire, close to the DART Station and all the amenities of this beautiful coastal town. Our modern office, with views over Dublin Bay, is set up for flexible working with the successful candidate provided with a lap-top and software that facilitates flexible working which we encourage….you work around your life requirements.

The team provides concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design as well as associated scheme assessment services on a wide range of traffic engineering projects and also supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a highway interface. Our Streets Team is involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients across the Irish Public Sector, including TII, NTA, and many local authorities throughout Ireland.

Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international project. A selection of our current and recent projects include:

Enhancing Motorway Operation Services (eMOS) Project, M50 (Implementation of Variable Speed Limits on the M50).

Fitzwilliam Square Protected Cycleway (first such protected cycle way in Dublin).

Various Bus Connects Projects in Dublin.

Glanmire LIHAF project Cork.

Dublin to Galway Greenway.

Dubai BRT.

Job Duties:

  • Undertake traffic engineering studies from feasibility to preliminary design

  • Assist in the preparation of fee proposals and contribute to major bids.

  • Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief.

  • Manage sub-consultants to produce deliverables against agreed timescales and in line with budget.

  • Sharing knowledge and supporting team

  • Familiar with relevant Health and Safety regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team.

  • Following successful accreditation on the AECOM project management system act as a Project Manager including monitoring financial performance. Comprehensive training on AECOM’s project management system will be provided.

  • Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief.

  • Assist with the preparation preliminary or detailed design and project delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes

  • Assist with the preparation of detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required.

  • Attend Project Progress meetings as and when required.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Good Knowledge of AUTOCAD and Microsoft office suite of programs.

  • Appreciation of traffic modelling and ability to interrogate outputs.

  • Experience of applying Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets and the principles of DMRB, the Traffic Signs Manual and MX Design.

  • Full Driving license is not essential but would be beneficial.

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge of developing feasibility and preliminary design schemes.

  • Knowledge and experience in some of the following aspects: cycling, walking, bus priority, traffic calming, parking and junction design.

  • Proficient user of AutoCAD;

  • Knowledge of local and national design standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant subject.
