AECOM Senior, Principal and Associate Consultants (T&D) in Dublin, Ireland

Job Summary

AECOM is actively recruiting for Senior, Principal and Associate consultants to join our growing Electricity Transmission & Distribution team based in both the Republic of Ireland. The team delivers project management, design and owners engineer role for electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltages ranging from 110 kV to 400 kV.

The focus of the team is large-scale grid infrastructure, grid connections, and private networks, particularly in projects involving the following:

  • Hyperscale data centres connecting to the transmission system

  • Feasibility studies for upgrades to transmission systems, up to 400 kV

  • Renewable energy wind and Solar, connections at up to 220 kV

  • Owners Engineer roles for the construction of HV infrastructure up to 400 kV

Examples of recent and current Irish projects include:

  • Design of a 220 kV GIS substation and 220 kV cable for planning permission applications

  • Various 220 kV and 110 kV HV cables design projects from feasibility to detailed design

  • Feasibility studies for multiple projects in both 220 kV and 110 kV substations, both AIS and GIS

  • Owners engineer role for the construction of multiple HV construction projects, up to 220 kV

  • Studies and grid connection applications for various renewable generation and hyper-scale data centre projects across the UK

The work can be varied and there will be a lot of opportunity to learn in the role some of the tasks that might be require are listed below :

  • Design of new transmission substations on green field sites

  • Feasibility studies for upgrades to existing transmission infrastructure

  • Detailed HV cable designs up to 220 kV using CYMCAP software

  • Detailed design of Earthing systems for sites up to 220 kV, using CDEGS software

  • Owners engineer role including site attendance supervision for substations construction sites up to 220 kV

  • Preparing planning applications for transmission projects

  • Various detailed design elements for HV substations

  • As an international consultancy, there are opportunities to work on projects outside Ireland, but the role is primarily Ireland based. In addition to electrical engineering responsibilities, this role may encourage business development and project management skills which will involve participating in client engagements, assisting with bids and proposals, and applying AECOM’s safety, environmental, quality and project management systems.

Minimum Requirements

Required/Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Honor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience designing the HV infrastructure across the full project lifecycle from feasibility to detailed design.

  • Experience with high voltage substation construction projects

  • Good team player and have a client-focused mindset Customer facing skills

  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to make design decisions

  • Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects.

  • Ability to work flexibly across a broad range of projects

  • The vision and skills to apply emerging technologies to meet new project requirements

  • Design or management experience in at least one or more of the following areas is desirable:

  • HV Plant

  • Cables or OHLs (MV or HV)

  • System studies

  • Protection and Control

  • Commissioning of HV plant

  • Earthing system and studies

  • Lightning protection system risk assessment

  • Understanding of electrical plant items and control systems such as transformers, circuit breakers, HVDC systems, interconnectors, HV Protection & Control

  • Willingness to travel to sites and client offices
