Our Edinburgh office requires a Bridge Technician with experience in working on infrastructure projects. At AECOM are currently expanding their Bridges team in Scotland following a major project win and require additional technician resources with proven skill in the use of AutoCAD.
You would be part of the Bridges Sector, covering Scotland and Ireland, numbering over 50 staff. The Sector works closely with other disciplines from the Rail, Geotechnical, Environment, Transport Planning and Building Divisions. You will be based within the CAFA team helping with the Inspection and Assessment of Network Rail structural assets from all areas of Scotland, but will also help with other major structural projects if required.

Thames Tideway – New Sewer under the River Thames
Perth MetroNet – 32 kilometers of rail to Perth’s (Australia) network
Shieldhall Overpass Refurbishment and Strengthening – Glasgow
Lomond Bridge Deck Replacement – West Dunbartonshire
Dargan Rail Bridge Assessment
Rail Viaducts in Saudi Arabia
York Street Interchange – A road scheme to improve the flow of traffic at the confluence of two motorways and the Westlink in Belfast
Production of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) drawings
Supporting the administration of projects, including maintaining records
Assisting with data review and analysis
Ensuring outputs are accurate and meet the required standards
Contributing to providing solutions to problems
Assisting with site visits to collect information or observe existing situations

You will be an experienced AutoCAD user and experienced in detailing modern and historic materials on a variety of bridge and infrastructure projects. You will have a proven level of experience of delivering projects in accordance with the requirements of the Eurocodes and legacy bridge codes, to the client’s satisfaction. Knowledge of historic railway infrastructure and materials would be an advantage, including typical material defects found on existing ageing and modern bridges would be an advantage.
You will have strong development skills with the ability to manage and supervise the work of less experienced staff, as required. You will also have the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance and to teach others.
Your skills profile should include:
HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications
Strong experience in the production of Bridge Structure drawings using AutoCAD.
Experience in the supervision and instruction of less experienced technician staff
Able to Produce CAD (Computer-Aided Design) drawings
Proven experience in supporting the administration of projects, including maintaining records
Able to assist in data review and analysis
Knowledge of defects found on existing ageing and modern bridge infrastructures
Experience using Revit would be beneficial
