Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking to hire a Traffic Engineer to be based in our Streets team in Edinburgh.

Our Streets team has a vacancy for a motivated Traffic Engineer with experience in the delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes. You will be joining a growing team who are working on some of the country’s most innovative and exciting transportation projects. Our projects are strategically important and changing how our towns and cities will operate in future with a focus on sustainability, environment and local communities.

The Streets team provides feasibility, concept and preliminary design, network modelling, detailed design, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of projects for local authorities and contractors.

Projects are multidisciplinary and cover the full project lifecycle. With opportunity to gain a breadth of experience, this is an ideal opportunity for someone who is pursuing professional accreditations which we will actively support.

Job Details:

  • Assist with the preparation preliminary or detailed design and project delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes

  • Take an active role in the preparation of detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required

  • Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief

  • Keep up to date with current best practice, techniques and innovation

  • Assist in the preparation of fee proposals and contribute to major bids

  • Manage sub-consultants to produce deliverables against agreed timescales and in line with budget

  • Delivering projects in line with Health and Safety regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team

  • Support Senior Management of Traffic and Local Roads team

Minimum Requirements

Excellent technical and communication skills. Creative and innovative approach to problem solving, exhibiting a ‘can-do’ problem solving attitude.

An ability to demonstrate experience and expertise in some or all of theof the following areas:

  • Traffic engineering/management design

  • Cycling and walking design

  • Traffic signal design

  • Road safety audits, analysis and design

  • Traffic signing and way-finding

  • Parking, road safety and public transport design

  • Traffic Regulation Orders and parking

  • Traffic modelling software (e.g. VISSIM, TRANSYT or LinSig)

  • Preliminary and detailed design including 3D design and relevant software (ACAD)

  • Applying relevant design standards including good working knowledge of DMRB and Local Authority design standards

  • Preparation of technical reports and checking work/specifications of junior staff

  • Liaising with clients, local authorities, utility companies etc. to obtain necessary approvals

Whilst not essential any of the following skills would be desirable:

  • Urban Design/Streetscape

  • Project Management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2)

  • Highways asset management and maintenance

  • CSCS Card holder

Preferred Qualifications

  • A relevant degree or HND and will be working towards an appropriate accreditation with membership of a professional institution
