Job Summary

Our Glasgow based Highways team currently has a site-based vacancy for an Engineer’s Representative.

You will undertake the role on the £10M single carriageway A9 Berriedale Braes Improvement scheme and you will be based on site at Berriedale in the North of Scotland from December 2018 for the duration of the construction, currently estimated to be 16-months, and the initial period of maintenance.

You will provide site-based support to the Glasgow office based Engineer for the contract, assist other site-based staff fulfil their respective duties under the Transport Scotland Design & Build Form of Contract, and be responsible for the management and administration of all construction related Services. An Assistant Site Engineer and a CoW / Inspector would also be reporting to you.

The Engineer’s Representative’s duties will include, but not be limited to: providing the Engineer with regular updates on progress and issues arising; assisting the Engineer in the Certification of payments; the consideration of technical queries or contractual claims; and chairing monthly Progress Meetings between the Client, Contractor and Engineer and providing related reports and minutes.

We would like to hear from you if you have demonstrable experience in a similar role on highways projects, a sound technical background and have extensive knowledge of the Design & Build Form of Contract.

Job Duties

  • Fulfilling the duties of the Engineer’s Representative under Transport Scotland’s D&B Form of Contract

  • Coordinating workload and managing a site-based supervisory team

  • Delivery of all specified services on time, within budget and to the quality required

  • Technical and financial Management

  • Providing the Engineer with regular updates on progress and issues arising

  • Assisting the Engineer in the Certification of payments

  • Consideration of technical queries and contractual claims

  • Chairing meetings between the Client, Contractor and Engineer and providing related reports and minutes

  • Communication with the site AECOM team, the wider AECOM organisation, Contractor, Client and others

  • Managing internal client relationships and project specific risks

  • Performing quality control reviews of work developed by others

Specific Skills Required

  • To be successful in this role we would like to hear from candidates who meet the following criteria

  • Highly motivated Chartered Engineer with excellent communication skills

  • Full lifecycle experience across a range of projects

  • Significant site supervision experience across a various Forms of Contract

  • Demonstrable understand of Health and Safety including CDM

  • Proven team management experience gained within a similar environment

  • Knowledge of standard engineering practices, techniques and procedures

  • Understanding of design principles and ability to practically apply them

  • Proactively seeks to contribute to the AECOM relationship with the client

  • Builds positive long term relationships with clients

  • Full clean driving licence

Minimum Requirements

  • Substanial experience since obtaining maximum educational qualification

Additional Comments

  • You will be a Chartered Engineer with proven site supervision experience and of delivering services to quality, time and budget

  • You will have experience of working collaboratively as part of a team supervising the construction of similar highway and infrastructure projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering (BSc, BEng or MEng)
