Job Description

What your new role will entail;

Our Air Quality team is looking for an experienced Senior Air Quality Consultant to complement and enhance an established UK team in any of these locations - Bristol, Basingstoke, Birmingham, Croydon, Leeds, Manchester or Nottingham.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding and knowledge of air quality, with the ability to work well in a team and have excellent communication and report writing skills. Experience of delivering air quality assessments and reports to clients is essential.

You will be involved in the following activities:

  • Undertake and / or manage air quality impact assessments and production of reports for clients for developments, roads and industrial facilities.

  • Use a range of dispersion modelling (e.g. ADMS/AERMOD) to predict air quality impacts.

  • Pro-actively assist in business development and preparing proposals for internal and external clients.

  • Develop, manage and mentor the work of junior staff within the team but supporting their technical guidance.

  • Manage ambient and workplace monitoring studies.

  • Ability to review work and document these checks in according with policies and procedures.

  • Develop health and safety risk assessments for site work to ensure personal and team safety.

  • Commercial management of resources on projects.

  • Interact with clients to gather information and discuss project requirements.

  • Actively and positively collaborate and interact with the wider UK air quality team.

The team numbers over 46 full-time air quality specialists in the UK with over 500 practitioners worldwide.

Our UK team of air quality specialists delivers a range of exciting and varied projects across Europe, Middle East, India and Africa region. We work in multi-disciplinary teams delivering solutions to a broad base of client sectors including development, energy, oil and gas, water, government and transportation. There are opportunities to support our clients not only through EIA and planning related services but through the full spectrum of project life services including monitoring, due diligence, occupational exposure assessments, risk management, emissions monitoring and the drafting of good practice guidance.

Our clients are from the private and public sector and our leading UK clients include Defra, National Highways, Thames Water, TfL and GLA, Kuwait Oil Company and numerous Local Authorities, as well as leading UK contractors and developers.

We have an impressive portfolio of major national and international infrastructure projects. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:

  • Development and Implementation of a Regulatory Air Compliance Management Program for Kuwait Oil Company

  • Air quality and odour chapter for the Environmental Statement for Thames Tideway Tunnel

  • Baseline, early works and construction monitoring for Thames Tideway Tunnel

  • Air quality assessment for Highways England for the A303 Stonehenge

  • Air quality assessments for numerous developments as part of the London Olympic Legacy

  • Air quality assessments for some of the most prestigious developments and road schemes in Central London including the Silvertown Tunnel

  • Review of ESHIAs for ethical lenders looking to fund sustainable developments in Africa and Asia

  • Air quality assessment of Phases 1 and 2 of HS2.

  • Digital based products with wider teams such as sustainability and geospatial teams.

  • Permit applications for carbon capture and hydrogen production facilities

  • Air Quality Guidance for Transport Infrastructure Ireland

Qualifications

Here’s what we will need from you;

  • Experience completing air quality assessments for road schemes, residential and commercial developments and LAQM studies.

  • Knowledge of permitting and compliance processes for industrial facilities would be beneficial.

  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of the current and future air quality policies in the UK

  • Enthusiasm for working in the air quality field.

  • Excellent report writing skills.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Extensive dispersion modelling experience.

  • Good understanding of ambient air quality monitoring

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ideally experience in the development of emission inventories.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications

  • Degree level in a numerical science, and ideally a postgraduate qualification

  • Full membership of a relevant professional body or certificate of successful completion of professional training, such as IAQM

  • Full, clean driving licence

  • Proficiency in GIS or programming skills e.g. R/Python
