Building services engineers work closely with the design team to ensure the projects we create together sustainably perform to the brief and budget. Increasingly we work with our other internal business lines such as Architecture, Environment, Transportation, and our own Project Managers to provide a one stop solution to our clients. Our Building Services Disciplines include:

Mechanical Engineering - The quality of a building’s internal environment plays a significant role in determining its fitness for the purpose for which it was designed. The mechanical engineer by the application of modern control technology allied to energy efficient heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, allows occupants to vary conditions within the building although this all starts with working with the architect to ensure the buildings form is sufficiently thermally efficient to enable energy targets to be met or exceeded.

Electrical Engineering - We deliver expert thinking to drive efficient solutions for High and low voltage power supplies, utilities, standby generation, UPS, resilient systems, small power, fire alarms, security, lighting and power. We pay attention to critical systems and resilience levels.

Public / Environmental Health Engineering - Water is life. Energy and water efficient solutions are delivered for hot and cold water systems, solar thermal, sprinklers, drainage systems, water treatment, fire suppression and irrigation systems as well as sophisticated water reclaim and recycling systems for optimum water conservation and Sustainable Drainage Solutions (SuDS)/Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Take part in all the production aspects of the projects in the office.

  • Receive guidance or direction from others to:

  • Produce draft design drawings for projects.

  • Carry out design calculations for checking and approval.

  • Use REVIT to automate design calculations and produce CAD drawings.

  • Compile tender packages including drawings and specifications

  • Visit site to review the progress of MEP installations on site

  • Ensure Safety Health and Environment procedures are implemented.

  • Integrate sustainability into all aspects of the design.

  • Work collaboratively with others as part of the team

Qualifications

No experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to school leavers at A-Level standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:

  • Minimum of three A levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science (either Physics or Chemistry) or will have completed a level 3 Apprenticeship BTEC National Diploma in a relevant field.

  • Must have obtained a L2 Maths and English qualification (GSCE grade A*- C / new tariff grade 4 or above).

  • Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Building Engineering

  • Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.

  • Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic

  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail

  • Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects

  • English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports

Applicants must be willing to progress their career by undertaking a day release course at a Further Education college to study a relevant course relating to Building Services. Your study will be funded and you will earn an income as a permanent employee of AECOM. Subsequently the expectation is that you would go on to achieve relevant professional qualifications as part of your career development.
