AECOM‘s B+P UK&I Pursuits Team leads and manages B+P’s largest and most strategic tender submissions across its established markets, bringing together strategy, positioning, bid management, co-ordination, writing, visualisation, training and knowledge professionals – and through a culture of collaboration and sharing. The B+P UK&I Pursuits Team creates a focus for strategic pursuits and promotes the use of AECOM’s bid processes and tools to enable capture managers to pursue and control bronze classified opportunities themselves, where a go/no-go has deemed appropriate. The B+P UK&I Pursuits Team’s role is to: prepare and respond to the prospect pipeline; drive strategy, oversee positioning activities, manage and lead the creation and production of winning submissions; and drive bidding improvements and best practice across all sectors within the UK and Ireland.
Our bid managers will lead the bid; they will assist with driving a winning strategy and oversee positioning activities using a consistent method, devising a bid programme, agreeing key deliverables, managing inputs from subject matter experts and driving progress through to successful submission. The bid manager will work collaboratively with the capture manager, technical leads, identified members of the bid team, operational colleagues, writers (where appropriate) and graphics team.
The bid manager will drive the bid through all stages, from capture management and win strategy development, through the pre-qualification questionnaire and proposal submission to interview/presentation preparation and debrief sessions. They will provide consistency through the entire process, responsible for sharing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement in our process and bidding efforts. The bid managers will be pro-active in communicating successes and lessons learned with the B+P UK&I Pursuits Team leadership team and colleagues. They will manage the sharing of information around their pursuits, including updates to regular team reports and trackers, along with monitoring of the relevant opportunities and their accuracy in Salesforce Lightening (our global CRM tool that enables us to have a 360 view of our client relationships, consistency in strategic reporting and the ability to make data-driven decisions), in collaboration with End Market colleagues. The bid managers will lead by example, with a calming influence, and a creative and organised culture and approach to pursuits through the full lifecycle, escalating risks to the capture manager/B+P UK&I Pursuits Team Lead when required.
Promote a culture of collaboration, positivity and success, devising a pursuit plan and assist with driving a winning strategy.
Lead an effective bid team, identify and brief contributors from across the business and manage, motivate and support them throughout the programme.
Support workshops/planning meetings including working with key proposal contributors to establish a clear win strategy and develop storyboard content.
Take accountability for and manage the compliance of the submission.
Oversee reviews of the quality and commercial content and legal compliance.
Gain client intel from the strategy and growth/marketing/CAM teams and ensure that they are full engaged
Drive the process to research the client’s aspirations and share this knowledge and intelligence with the team.
Implement a best practice approach and promote the use of AECOM’s bidding processes and tools to enable capture managers to pursue bronze classified opportunities themselves, where a go/no-go has deemed appropriate.
Identify bid training requirements.
Develop the requirements for each bid in a clear and understandable way.
Manage and maintain version control for bid documents and issue them to the appropriate functions for response/review/signature in line with the bid programme.
Instill a culture where others share knowledge, insights and learning.
Identify and share lessons learned as inputs to the continuous improvement of the Major Pursuit Team and B+P UK&I Pursuits Team processes and tools.
Support the B+P UK&I Pursuits Team Lead to drive professionalism and efficiency in the team and on the bids on which they work.
Promote the development of (a) people and (b) the behaviour and culture necessary to win, including supporting junior colleagues to develop their bidding skills.
Train and guide teams to prepare for client interviews and presentations.
Discipline bid manager: Active management of six-monthly update of CVs (including thumbnail staff images) and subsequent upload to the B+P CV’s area on the work winning hub.
Sector bid manager: Active management of the sector pipeline to ensure opportunities are recorded, pursued and maximised to support fee conversion and monthly sources of revenue analysis. Responsible for inputting into the monthly lessons learned analysis in order to drive continuous improvement in our process and bidding efforts.
Previous experience in bid management in similar market sectors/industry, with evidence of leading significant/strategic bids within the UK and Ireland.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with experience of managing multi-disciplinary proposals of a high strategic value.
An eye for detail, not accepting second best and taking personal pride and responsibility for all aspects within their control.
A sound working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint and Adobe InDesign.
A flexible, but methodical approach to supporting bidding activities across the UK and Ireland.
The ability to work professionally and collaboratively and build credibility with colleagues at all levels within the business.
The ability to work collaboratively with internal clients and to tactfully, but effectively pursue others for contributions as needed.
The ability to work positively under pressure and deliver quality output to deadlines, inspiring team members to work effectively within the bid team.
An experienced and efficient multi-tasker.
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
A working knowledge of Adobe InDesign.
Desirable: APMP certification.
