AECOM Principal Consultant - Economic Development in Manchester, United Kingdom

Job Summary

Job Duties:

Responsible as part of the Economic Development team in Urban Advisory at AECOM for helping to win and deliver significant projects in the UK and overseas covering:

  • Economic growth, sectoral and other spatial strategies from local to national level in the UK and overseas.

  • Socio-economic impact assessments of infrastructure and development schemes to support planning applications, business cases and funding bids.

  • Case making for and feasibility of a wider range of economic development projects and programmes.

  • Design and complete primary and secondary research projects and data analysis to develop a compelling evidence base.

  • Evaluations and appraisals of projects, programmes and policies to show impact and value for money.

  • Responsible and accountable to a Director or Associate Director for the technical delivery of (at least) medium scale projects or undertaking a lead technical role as part of an integrated project team on larger assignments. Ensuring all EPM/APIC related requirements are kept up-to-date and completed on time including EACs, healthy starts, reviews and invoicing.

  • Proactive in being client focused, understanding the needs of the project and offering high quality, professional economic development and related advice.

  • Effective business development and work winning skills allied with expertise in resource planning and project management to meet targets and KPIs. Committed to continuing professional development and career progression and encouraging others to do the same across the team and Urban Advisory. We will support you and invest in you through our career development and leadership potential programmes.

  • Provide guidance to junior staff within studio to ensure their development and utilisation and management of a number of junior and graduate staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • A developing track record in economic development with post qualification experience with clear project management experience including large more complex assignments and specific technical advice. Also it would be desirable to show experience of some of the following areas: land use planning and property development, transport and infrastructure projects, environmental impact assessment, design and delivery of business support and skills initiatives, business case and funding submissions including independent appraisal.

  • A portfolio of work which demonstrates excellent technical capabilities including report writing and presentation.

  • Analytic and numerical skills including spreadsheet and other software skills.

  • A track record of contributing to innovative economic development solutions and some experience of working across complex local, regional and national stakeholder relationships.

  • A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and ability to work in a consultancy environment, effectively managing client relationships and working to tight deadlines.

  • A team player who can work as part of wide project teams across disciplines and geographies – making high quality technical contributions. Helps to support the building of the team and the internal relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in geography, economics, business, transport or sustainability or a related discipline with a postgraduate qualification in a similar field and/or overall equivalent experience.
