Position Title Principal Transport Planning Consultant

We are looking to recruit a Principal Transport Planning Consultant within our Transport Planning Business in our Manchester city centre office. The Transport Planning team is expanding to meet the demands of our wide portfolio of clients – from both within the UK and overseas. This role has been created to meet existing demands and also reflects our significant growth aspirations in the region. We are seeking an experienced individual with a proven track record in transport planning and transport modelling, who is capable of managing and developing staff, as well as working closely with our extensive client base.
Our Manchester city centre office is part of our North West Transport Planning team, which currently comprises of 60 staff. The team are fully integrated into AECOM’s wider North West multi-disciplinary business of over 700 staff. The Transport Planning team are part of the Strategy, Planning & Advisory (SP&A) sector offering a range of planning, modelling and appraisal services across all transport modes to local, regional and national government as well as the private sector.
We have an exciting and extensive portfolio of projects in the North West for major clients including Highways England, TfN and HS2 as well as all major local government bodies such as TfGM, Merseytravel, Warrington and Cheshire West and the Greater Manchester districts. We undertake a wide range of services for Manchester Airport Group and also public transport operators in the region.
As a Principal Transport Planning Consultant in Manchester, you will:
Review transport appraisals and provide succinct and robust technical comments
Develop and/or review models to assess the performance of proposed schemes
Develop transport studies, plans or strategies for towns, corridors or regions
Manage and undertake the gathering and review of data
Explain technical concepts to others including more junior colleagues and clients
Prepare or supervise the preparation of presentations and present information to internal and external groups
Manage small (or elements of larger) projects, managing the production of analysis and associated outputs, ensuring outputs are delivered on time and to an excellent standard
Be directly responsible for a small team within the office
Provide updates to project managers/directors in terms of the progress of tasks in line with programmes
Provide direction and technical advice to junior project team members, taking a proactive role in developing team members to their full potential
Work closely with other parts of the SP&A group and the wider business both locally and across the country.
Bachelor’s Degree Level Qualification or higher in a related field
Broad experience in Transport Planning studies
Ability to manage complex modelling tasks
Experience with report writing and presentationsTransport modelling and appraisal
In depth understanding of WebTAG requirements
Familiarity with Highways England PCF product requirements
Experience of audit and review of transport models
Ability to handle the project management of smaller tasks and projects, including cost control, project schedules and liaising with and presenting to clients
Technical and financial project management experience
Strong analytical abilities
Strong and detailed communication skills
