Position Title Technical Director EIA - Nuclear Sector

AECOM’s UK Environment & Planning team is looking to recruit a number of strategic roles at Technical Director, Associate Director or Principal professionals to join our Environment & Planning team in the North West, South West and South East. The successful candidates would join the UK’s largest team of EIA practitioners and would be responsible for the technical direction, project management and leadership of Development Consent Orders and large scale EIA projects.
The successful candidate will have a track-record of successful project delivery, client account management, and business development. In particular, we are looking for an individual with experience in the nuclear sector, principally new build and decommissioning aspects of the sector to support AECOMs diverse backlog. Experience in preparation of EIAs and other associated environmental deliverables such as radiological permits and Environmental Management Plans to support such projects would be advantageous. Other experience is welcome from similar large scale infrastructure and AECOM is also currently advertising for transport infrastructure, power development, oil and gas and local government sector experience.

We are looking for someone that will be able to take a both leadership and supporting roles within a vibrant and diverse team; helping us to continue to deliver a high quality service to existing clients and to expand our market share in established and new development sectors.
Our UK Environment & Planning business comprises over 200 people across approximately 20 offices. In the North West we have offices in Manchester, Altrincham, Warrington, Chesterfield and Westlakes. In the South West, our offices include Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter, whilst in the South East, we have multiple offices covering Wimbledon, London, Peterborough, St Albans and Croydon. We have over 100 EIA practitioners and large teams of environmental specialists covering the full suite of technical disciplines such as acoustics, air quality, ecology, heritage etc. as well as Town Planners, Sustainability Specialists and experts in health, equalities and climate change.
We provide support to clients at all stages of the development process, including feasibility, optioneering, promotion through planning and project implementation. Our EIA work covers a range of planning regimes, including Town and Country Planning applications, EIA Nuclear Decommissioning Regulations and Development Consent Orders.
Our EIA teams often work very closely with our engineering and design colleagues, who are delivering the sort of exciting projects you would expect from a global environmental and engineering consultancy with a reputation for developing and implementing innovative solutions to the world’s most complex challenges.
We have an enviable client base within the nuclear industry which includes all of the major property developers operating in across the UK with both new build and decommissioning projects at all phases of development.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following illustrative roles and responsibilities:
Oversee the delivery of EIAs for a number of nuclear sector projects and other opportunities, working alongside our experience Project Managers.
Lead the preparation of major project bids
Contribute to work wining activities and client account management
Assist with meeting the team’s financial targets
Demonstrate leadership in quality, innovation and health & safety
Provide staff mentoring and assist with team leadership
Be a key interface with other senior individuals elsewhere within AECOM
Help with business strategy development for the wider south of England Environment and Planning Team and to lead on certain sales and marketing initiatives especially within the urban regeneration and infrastructure sector
Work with the Operations Leaders and wider management team to manage recruitment, training, annual appraisals and disciplinary matters
Monitor the team’s adherence to company health and safety, quality and environmental management system requirements
Technically review EIA Chapters, and Non-Technical Summaries
To keep up to date with relevant environmental planning legislation/policy/guidance.
Previous experience in EIA and Environmental Management
Experience in project direction/management and financial management of major projects
A track-record of work winning and successful client account management
Highly motivated and able to work with limited direction
Effective and persuasive leadership skills
Excellent communication and networking skills
You will have a good first degree and a second degree in an appropriate environmental discipline.
You will have chartered status with a relevant professional body.
