AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Infrastructure Engineer to join an established Highway and civil engineering team. With a strong pipeline of work secured, the opportunity exists to come into a talented team and lend technical leadership to fuel further success in a vibrant market that offers major Highways projects alongside regeneration and multi-disciplinary schemes that are making a positive contribution to the South West. Flagship projects include the Forder Valley Link Road (which is on site now), the Manadon Interchange improvement works (a significant Highway scheme at preliminary stage) and Plymouth City Council’s Oceansgate regeneration scheme. The AECOM team also hold the CORMAC Professional Services Framework in Cornwall meaning that project inputs reach from south of Bristol through to the end of the Peninsula.
As a Principal Engineer you will undertake the design and project management of various Highway and civil infrastructure related projects and assist in developing the AECOM business across the South West. This role will provide technical design leadership to ensure projects are delivered to programme quality and budget. You will also have the opportunity to develop positive internal team relationships and provide support to junior staff in order to develop their individual skills and to encourage their personal development. Key to this role is the ability to provide a client-focused service that drives on-going satisfaction and repeat business.
In particular, you should demonstrate the ability to:
Provide technical input, technical leadership and project management across a range of specialisms in the field of Highway and civil engineering.
Reporting to the South West Regional Directors, you will undertake a variety of tasks providing as an individual or through team effort, a range of design and written deliverables.
Show technical leadership and through experience mentor and guide the skills of others in computer-based applications and tasks including use of software such as Civils3D, WinDES, and the Microsoft Office Suite of programmes including MS Project.
Undertake Project activities in line with Company Policy, including technical and commercial aspects, as appropriate to your grade.
Take a lead role on projects within your skill area.
Plan, lead and undertake site visits, as required.
Plan and attend meetings – internal and external, as required.
Liaison with sub-consultants and external parties, as required.
Participate as a team member on a number of levels, including; office, discipline and project.
Be proactive and contribute to a safer work environment.
Participating in the technical review of project deliverables and quality review of design calculations or drawings
Preparing technical specifications
Preparing tenders and managing project budgets and schedules
MEng / BEng / BSc in Civil Engineering
Highway/pavement design skills including a working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), Manual for Streets and Local Authority Design Guides for Highways in Residential and Commercial Estates
Incorporated / Chartered Engineer status
Previous experience at a Senior/Principal level in a UK Highway and drainage design for Consulting Engineer or a Local/Highway Authority
Sound and proven Civils 3D, PDS or MOSS/MX
Sound knowledge of construction contracts and commercial awareness
Understanding of the CDM regulations and duties
Site supervision experience of civil engineering projects
Drainage design skills including a working knowledge of Sewers for Adoption, Building Regulations Part H and the SUDS Manual
